Kalamazoo Area Food Resources

Food is Essential for Learning

  • Having consistent access to fresh, nutritious food can benefit learning, as well as physical and mental health.
  • There are many local food resources -- at Kalamazoo Valley and in the surrounding area -- that benefit students.  Explore this guide to learn more.
  • Visit the Kalamazoo Valley Libraries -- Texas Township Campus, Arcadia Commons Campus, or online -- to borrow cookbooks, use technology, or do further research on any of these topics.

Valley Food Share is an initiative designed to meet the immediate food needs of Kalamazoo Valley students.  Distribution is currently a drive-thru service alternating between the Food Innovation Center and the Texas Township Campus every Thursday from 2-4 p.m.  Students will receive an email on Thursdays that includes a link to sign up for a share as well as instructions for pick up.

Life Resources

Coty Dunten meets with students individually to discuss their non-academic needs. She then identifies community and college resources that may be available to the student. Topics can include housing options, child care, financial barriers, legal troubles, and health concerns. In addition, students will also be coached on problem-solving, prioritize goal setting, time management, and more.
