Research Basics: Identifying Research Studies

How to identify different types of research studies?

Use the following sections in your source to determine research type.  

  • Sciences and Social Sciences 
    • The Methods section gives information about research study design, including research subjects, materials, processes and measures. 
    • The Title may also indicate the type of research study.  
  • Humanities 
    • The Abstract or Introduction gives information about the thesis, theories, types of analysis, events and/or primary/secondary sources and artifacts.  
    • The Title may also indicate the type of research.
